The strike is coming to an end Hollywood after almost five months as the writers came to a temporary agreement with American studios, according to the BBC.

The writers’ union, the Writers Guild of America (WGA), called the deal “excellent – with significant gains and protections for writers.” WGA members still have the final say.

This is the largest strike to affect Hollywood in decades and has halted most film and television production.

A separate dispute exists with the actors, who are also on strike.

The strike that began on May 2 has cost the California economy billions of dollars. Many related businesses have been affected, including caterers, costume suppliers, carpenters and camera operators. In recent days the bosses of Netflix, Disney, Universal and Warner Bros. Discovery personally watched the negotiations, which gave a new impetus. The actors have been on strike since mid-July – represented by the 160,000-member SAG-AFTRA performers union.

Hollywood writers fear they will lose their jobs with the advent of artificial intelligence in our lives.

WGA leadership and union members are expected to sign a three-year contract with the Motion Picture and Television Producers Alliance before returning to work.
