Turkey’s concern

Commenting on the defense agreement, Gallia Lindenstrauss, a senior fellow at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), noted that as Turkey-Israel relations have deteriorated over the past decade, Israel has forged stronger ties with Greece and Cyprus.

“As part of deepening relations, Israeli companies have signed defense agreements with Greece and now with Cyprus,” Lindenstrauss said. “While the development of Israeli-Greek-Cypriot relations has been remarkable, in the light of growing tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean, there are concerns that Israel will become more involved in the Cyprus issue in a way that will cause growing friction between Ankara and Jerusalem.”
