“Russia has shown that it is not a reliable ally,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said.
The US said today that Russia has shown it is not a “reliable partner”, following Azerbaijan’s attack on Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia’s accusations that Moscow did not support them.
“Russia has shown that it is not a reliable ally,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said when asked by reporters about the issue.
On Sunday, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan directly blamed Moscow, calling his country’s alliances “ineffective”, something Russia disputes.
The State Department spokesman also expressed the US’s “deep concern” for the fate of the Armenian residents of Nagorno-Karabakh, stressing that it “endorses” calls for the deployment of an international mission in the region to bring transparency and reassure civilians. He added that “discussions” are underway on this matter, but without giving any other details.
Miller called for the ceasefire to continue to be observed, for the humanitarian needs of the population to be met and for the resumption of peace talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
