“We are saddened by the news that at least 68 people have been killed and hundreds injured in an explosion at a fuel depot in Nagorno-Karabakh, and we express our deepest condolences to the people of Nagorno-Karabakh and all those who are suffering,” said the spokeswoman for the National Security Council of Nagorno-Karabakh. On a visit to Armenia, Samantha Power, head of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), said today that the United States will provide $11.5 million in humanitarian aid.
Armenians in Karabakh – a part of Azerbaijan not under Baku’s control after the breakup of the Soviet Union – began fleeing their homes this week as their forces were routed in a blitzkrieg launched by the Azeri army.
