Anti-virus king John McAfee (John David McAfee) was found dead at the age of 75 on June 23, 2021 in his cell in a Spanish prison a few hours after the decision of the Spanish Supreme Court to extradite him to the US where he was wanted on charges of tax evasion.

After almost two and a half years, a Spanish court ruled that McAfee committed suicideaccording to a court document seen by Reuters today.

“There is not the slightest suspicion of a charge against a third party of criminal conduct,” said the decision dated July 24, which was however made public today and cannot be appealed before a regular court.

With this decision the curtain falls on the investigation on the cause of death of the IT mogul and computer programmer known for his eponymous antivirus software released in 1987.

The British-American tech mogul had been held at Brians 2 prison in the Barcelona area for eight months after his arrest after years on the run from US authorities.

Although the necropsy had already determined that McAfee committed suicide, his family had gone to court asking for a deeper investigation into the cause of his death.

His body was in a Barcelona mortuary awaiting the conclusion of the legal process.
