The bus can be seen falling from the Mestre bridge, without having developed much speed. Italian public opinion is in a state of shock, while Venice is in mourning, after the tragic car accident with 21 dead.
As the bus falls from the viaduct, from a height of 30 meters, and the fire that broke out immediately after, two minor children also lost their lives. According to the latest information, the two children who lost their lives there is an infant of a few months and a 12-year-old girl.
“In the images, the bus brakes”
Speaking earlier to French news agency LaPresse, the CEO of bus owner La Linea Spa, Massimo Fiorese described the video.
As he said, “no one knows yet exactly what happened, what we do know is that there was a fixed camera on the overpass. From what I’ve seen from the pictures, from what little you can see, you can see the bus arriving (at the spot) at less than 50km an hour, you see the stop lights come on, so he would have braked. Then you see that the vehicle ‘rests’ on the guardrail, overturns and falls down (from the bridge).”
“I clarify that the bus it didn’t catch fire there were only a few flames. Being electric, if it had caught fire it would be an even worse tragedy,” Fiorese adds.
It is noted that a hospital (Ospedale dell’Angelo) has been created special reception area for relatives of the victims, with psychologists and interpreters from the Veneto Region. The relatives are assisted by a team of experts consisting of seven psychologists and three psychiatrists.
His photo was also released earlier 40-year-old bus driver Alberto Rizzotto, who also died in the accident. Shocked, his colleagues spoke of an experienced driver.
