The European Parliament put an end to hand luggage charges by airlines with a resolution it approved today.

The non-binding resolution to the Commission provides for a single European regulation so that based on the decision of the European Court of Justice in 2014 airlines will have to abolish additional fees for passengers who bring hand luggage in the cabinas well as the additional and sometimes hidden charges, which make it difficult for passengers to compare prices.

The European Court of Justice in 2014 issued a decision on hand luggage according to which, airlines cannot impose an additional fee on hand luggageas long as they have reasonable weight and dimensions and comply with safety requirements.

The EU seeks to solve two problems: the different policies followed by airlines resulting in confusion for passengers. In addition, the vague advertisements that could mean hidden baggage fees when purchasing the ticket.

Also, seeks clarity from airlines regarding exact weight and size.

Weight and size standards can vary greatly between airlines. This is particularly problematic for passengers with connecting flights on different airlines that have different standards, increasing the likelihood of paying additional fees at the boarding gate.
