THE US President Joe Biden urged US political leaders today to clean up the “toxic atmosphere” in Washington and work together for the new budget, before the emergency measure passed over the weekend that allows federal funding for 45 days expires in a few weeks.

Biden’s statement came a day after the unprecedented impeachment of the Republican speaker of the House of Representatives, which was instigated by a small group of hard-line Republicans.

“We need to change the toxic climate in Washington. We have deep disagreements but we must stop considering each other as enemies”, he stressed.

The Democratic president also expressed the fear that Republican infighting may hurt Ukraine aid. He promised to give a speech soon in which he will outline why it is “very important” that the US should continue to support Kiev.
