British police announced today that they have launched an investigation into manslaughter at the hospital where she worked nurse Lucy Letby, who was convicted in August of killing seven newborns and attempting to kill six others.

Letby, 33, was jailed for life for the murders she committed at the Countess of Chester Hospital in north-west England. Police said in a statement they are investigating the period from June 2015 to June 2016, focusing on “the management and decision-making process” of the hospital.

“At this stage, we are not investigating any specific individuals,” said a police spokesman, Simon Blackwell, noting that the investigation was still “at a preliminary stage”.

Lucy Letby denies all charges against her and has appealed the conviction.

The British government recently announced that an independent, public inquiry would be held to establish the circumstances of the babies’ deaths and in particular the attitude of the hospital management, which was said to have been aware since 2015 but the nurse was only arrested in 2019.
