Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Granada to take part in the summit of the European Political Community, the forum that promotes cooperation between more than 40 countries after Russia’s invasion.

A meeting of European leaders in Granada is expected to confirm long-term support for Zelenskiy after US President Joe Biden expressed fears that infighting in the Republican camp could affect US policy on continuing aid to Kiev.

“Our common goal is to ensure the security and stability of our common European home,” Zelensky said at Platform X. “We are working together with partners to improve the European security architecture, especially regional security. Ukraine has important proposals in this regard.”

“We will pay special attention to the Black Sea region as well as our joint efforts to strengthen global food security and freedom of navigation,” the Ukrainian president added.

Russia withdrew in July from an agreement that had allowed Ukraine to safely transport food through the Black Sea, traditionally Kiev’s main export corridor.

Ukraine responded by creating a temporary “humanitarian corridor” for cargo ships, and several ships have left Ukrainian Black Sea ports since then.

“Ukraine’s main priority, especially as winter approaches, is to strengthen its air defenses. We have already laid the foundations for new agreements with partners and look forward to their approval and implementation.”

He did not elaborate, but Ukraine, which is heavily dependent on its Western allies for arms, fears Russia will unleash new waves of airstrikes on energy infrastructure this winter.

“Today should be a productive day for Ukraine and Europe as a whole,” Zelensky added.
