Coordinated European action to tackle the increased flows of migrants through illegal routes, the UK Prime Minister will ask at the Granada summit Rishi Sunak.

In the context of the meeting of the European Political Community in the Spanish city, Mr. Sunak will describe the current situation “immoral and unsustainable”.

Co-chairing a meeting on illegal immigration and organized crime with his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni, the British prime minister will say that “creative pan-European solutions” are needed and that cracking down on smugglers and tightening border controls is key.

“We cannot allow criminal gangs to decide who comes to Europe’s shores,” Mr. Sunac stated shortly before departing for Granada.

Agreements are also expected to be finalized with the leaders of Belgium, Bulgaria and Serbia to crack down on trafficking networks, through the sharing of more security information and greater cooperation at the operational level.

The British Prime Minister has made it one of his government’s five priorities to “stop boats” crossing the English Channel.

During his presence in Granada Rishi Sunak will also address the need to support Ukraine and participate in a round table discussion on Artificial Intelligence.
