The spokeswoman of the White House described the Russian attack as “terrifying”. in the village of Chroza of eastern Ukraine, where 51 people were killed.

“We must continue to support the Ukrainian people because this is the terrifying reality they live every day,” said Karin Jean-Pierre. This attack occurs at a time when the president Joe Biden is trying to get Congress to approve additional aid to Ukraine.

In Hroza, searches for survivors have been completed, as announced by the emergency response service. In total, the dead amount to 51, including a child. Six other people were injured.

Lament in the village

Volodymyr Mukhovati, a 70-year-old resident of Hroza, lost his son in this blow. His wife of 48 years and daughter-in-law are also believed to be among the victims.

“They just took my son out (from the wreckage), no head, no arms, no legs… We recognized him from his identity card, his driver’s license,” the elderly man said. “My wife and my daughter-in-law… Who knows… So far, we haven’t found them,” he added, hoping they might be among the injured people taken by ambulances. But the hopes are “few”, he admits. “I won’t live long alone. My wife loved me very much,” he says.

At around 7pm, with night falling, soldiers carried the white sacks containing the lifeless bodies of the victims into a truck. About twenty people were left in front of the small cafe where the residents had gathered and which was completely destroyed by the Russian blow.
