“Thirteen sex offenses” at Army Foundation college reported between July 22, 2022 and August 17, 2023
Nine rapes have been revealed at Britain’s Harrogate Military College within 13 months of the suicide of 19-year-old Jaysley-Louise Beck, who decided to end her life after being sexually harassed by a superior.
The scary facts are brought to light by the Daily Mail, which notes that Harrogate used to be a model college, but now it can no longer be considered safe.
It is reminded that the college educates children aged 16 and 17.
“Thirteen sexual offences” at the Army Foundation college were reported between 22 July 2022 and 17 August 2023 – including nine allegations of rape, two of sexual assault and two of witnessing a sexual act, according to North Yorkshire police and the crime commissioner.
In January 2023, an instructor, Cpl Simon Bartman, was sentenced to 20 months in military detention after being found guilty of sexual assault as well as eight counts of indecent behaviour.
David Gee, an adviser to the International Network for the Rights of the Child, told the Daily Mail that “Harrogate cannot be considered safe”.
The British newspaper notes that the United Kingdom is the only country in Europe that recruits 16- and 17-year-olds into its armed forces.
The children are trained at Harrogate College where there are more than 1,300 recruits with female personnel making up 11.7% of recruits to the armed forces.
