The Russian president Vladimir Putin stated today that the escalation of violence between Israelis and Palestinians he pointed to the failure of US policy, which he said seeks to monopolize talks while ignoring Palestinian interests.

“I think many people will agree with me, that this is a vivid example of the failure of the United States’ policy in the Middle East,” Putin told the Iraqi prime minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani who is visiting Moscow.

Putin said that the United States tried to “monopolize” international peace efforts in the region and accused Washington of neglecting to seek compromises that would be acceptable to all sides.

The United States, Putin said, has ignored the interests of the Palestinians, including the need for an independent Palestinian state. The Palestinians want a state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip with Jerusalem as their capital, all territories captured by Israel in the 1967 war.

The Kremlin earlier announced it was in contact with the two sides and would seek to play a role in resolving the conflict between them.
