A protester took to the stage where Labor leader Keir Starmer was and managed to hit him with… glitter before security guards took him away.
Starmer was preparing to begin his address to the party’s annual conference.
After the incident and after speaking for a few minutes with a member of his staff, the Labor leader removed his jacket and rolled up his glitter-studded sleeves.
“If he thinks I’m annoyed, he’s wronghe said referring to the protester.
The latter was shouting:In real democracy, the citizens are the protagonists. Politics needs an upgrade, we are asking for a popular Parliament (…) We are in a crisis, we are in a crisis, our future is at stake».
In his speech, Starmer said he was shocked by the new war in the Middle East and underlined that he supports Israel’s right to self-defense.
“I am shocked and appalled by the events in Israel. I categorically condemn the wanton killing of men, women and children, including British citizens, by Hamas terrorists (…) This action by Hamas does nothing to benefit the Palestinians. And Israel must always have the right to defend its people“, he added.
