According to Syrian state television, Israel has launched an attack on Damascus and Aleppo airports.

Syria’s two main airports, that of the capital Damascus and that of the northern city of Aleppo, were shut down following Israeli raids launched today targeting these two airports, Syrian media reported.

The “simultaneous” airstrikes “destroyed the runways of the two airports, putting them out of service,” a Syrian military source told state media.

Syrian pro-government media outlet Sham FM reported that Syrian air defenses were activated in response to the attacks.

The Israeli TV network Channel 12 reported that the Israeli army confirmed that it launched two simultaneous attacks on the two airports.

Sources said the airport raids are intended to disrupt Iranian supply lines to Syria.

The Israeli attacks come as Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian is expected to visit Syria.

Syrian media reported that Syrian air defenses were activated in response to the attacks.

According to other reports, Damascus International Airport was struck by the Israeli air force just before a plane carrying Iran’s foreign minister was to land.

The plane carrying the Iranian Foreign Minister returns to Tehran.
