At least 45 civilians were killed and dozens injured in an Israeli airstrike this afternoon on the Jabaliya refugee camp in the northern part of the Gaza Strip, Al Jazeera reported, citing the Palestinian enclave’s interior ministry.

Eyad Bozoum, spokesman for the interior ministry in Gaza, told the Associated Press news agency that a building in which dozens of civilians had taken refuge was leveled, estimating that the final toll will be higher as the search and rescue operation in the ruins has not been completed.

The toll so far of the attacks launched by the Israeli armed forces since Saturday in the besieged Gaza Strip amounts to 1,537 dead and 6,612 injured, the Ministry of Health of the Palestinian enclave announced this evening. In the relevant update, it is underlined that among the dead are 500 children and 276 women.
