US President Joe Biden has promised to “whatever he can” to free American citizens held hostage by Hamas, in an interview he gave to the CBS television network, excerpts of which were released this afternoon.

Biden also spoke via video call with the relatives of the 14 Americans who have been missing for a week after the Hamas attack on Israel.

According to the latest count, 27 Americans have been killed and others are being held hostage by the Islamic group. Washington has not specified how many of the 14 missing are in the hands of Hamas.

“We’re going to do everything we can to bring them home if we can find them,” Biden said in this very brief excerpt of the interview aired by CBS.

The interview is to be broadcast on Sunday.

The families “they need to know that the president of the United States is deeply concerned about what happened to them“, added the American president. What Hamas did “it’s not human behavior, it’s pure barbarism“, he continued.

Hamas claimed to be holding around 150 hostages and 13 of them were killed by Israeli strikes in Gaza.
