Israel has the right to defend itself, stressed Josep Borel
The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs Joseph Borel declared that the world had failed in its efforts to achieve a two-state solution for Israelis and Palestinians.
“The world has failed miserablyBorel said today in Beijing, pointing out that for 30 years there has been no success in terms of the two-state solution.
He also admitted that while the two-state solution is a desirable goal for Israelis and Palestinians in the future, it will not resolve the current conflict that erupted last weekend.
Borrell made statements in Beijing with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi regarding international security issues.
“We are currently witnessing a serious humanitarian crisis in Gaza,” said the representative of the European diplomacy.
He reiterated his support for the UN position and distanced himself from the Israeli army’s order for a mass evacuation of northern Gaza.
So many people can’t leave in such a short time, it’s “just impossible, you can’t move such a volume of people,” Borrell said.
Israel has the right to defend itself, he stressed, adding that this right must be exercised in accordance with international law.
“The position is clear,” Borrell said. “We certainly believe in Israel’s right to defend itself.” “But like any right, there is a limit. And that limit is international law.”
