Apology from British police for racist, misogynistic and homophobic messages

by

THE British police apologized today after an internal investigation revealed that police officers they talked to each other about how to beat their wives, they did racist and homophobic comments and one texted a colleague telling her he wanted to rape her.

Citizens’ trust in the London police has been shaken in recent years, following a series of revelations but also the abduction, rape and murder of a woman, Sarah Everard, by a police officer.

An investigation by the Independent Police Behavior Office at the Charging Cross police station, very close to the metropolitan police headquarters, revealed a culture of intimidation, racial discrimination, “toxic masculinity, misogyny and sexual harassment”. In its report, the service describes some of the vulgar messages exchanged by the police.

“Do you ever beat your wife?” They love you more like that. Seriously, after I did, it does not leave me alone. Hit her and she will love you. It’s in human nature. “

In another case, a police officer texted a colleague, saying, “I would gladly rape you” and “If I were free, I would gladly chloroform you.”

One police officer was nicknamed “the rapist” because of rumors that he brought women to the ward to have sex with them or because he liked to harass them.

Offensive messages were also circulated to Muslims, Africans, Somalis, Auschwitz, homosexuals and people with disabilities. Police “joked” that they would make dog food from children from Africa, called the Somalis “rats” and described a black man as a “robber”. The disabled were called “retarded”.

Some of the messages were so obscene that Reuters did not include them in its report.

“We apologize to all Londoners for the reprehensible behavior of a group of police officers in the Charging Cross department,” police said.

Home Secretary Pretty Patel has commented that London police have a culture problem. “Citizens rightly expect that the behavior of the police will be impartial,” he said.
