“If someone is considered to be a threat to national security, member states should be able to force the person to leave,” stressed Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
“We as Europeans have to determine who comes to the EU and under what conditions,” emphasized Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at a press conference with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander de Croo and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristerson on the terrorist attacks in Brussels.
He stressed that, “if someone is considered to be a threat to national security, member states should be able to force the person to leave”, which is, as he noted, in the Migration and Asylum Pact.
“This is one more reason to get to the finish line now and I am confident knowing that the next EU presidency is Belgium’s. So we will get the Pact to the finish line,” he added.
Regarding the returns, Ursula von der Leyen pointed out that “we have to work more as ‘Team Europe’.” We have more power together, the Member States and the EU, we will step up our efforts by dealing with countries of origin and transit. We as Europeans must determine who comes to the EU and under what conditions.”
