Chinese President Xi Jinping said today during his meeting in Beijing with Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa al-Madbouli that China wishes to “bring” more “stability” to the Middle East, according to official Chinese media.

The statements of the Chinese head of state were made in the context of the war between Israel and Hamas. Egypt borders the Gaza Strip, which is controlled by the Islamist Palestinian movement.

“China is willing to strengthen cooperation with Egypt in various fields (…) and work with Egypt to bring more certainty and stability to the region and the world,” Xi Jinping said to his guest, according to with China’s public broadcaster CCTV.

“China and Egypt are good friends who share the same goals and trust each other, and are also good partners working together for development and common prosperity,” Xi said.

“The international and regional situation is currently undergoing profound and complex changes.”

China is also willing to work with Egypt to “jointly safeguard international equity and justice as well as the common interests of developing countries,” Xi added.
