The 22-year-old Iranian woman died in Tehran on September 16, 2022 – three days after she was arrested by police for not wearing her headscarf properly.
“The brutal murder of Gina Mahsa Amini marked a turning point,” said European Parliament President Roberta Metzola.
“Her death caused the outbreak of a women’s movement that entered History. The slogan “Woman Life Freedom” became a rallying cry for all those who defend equality, dignity and freedom in Iran,” he said.
