Several explosions were reported inside the Ain al-Assad base in western Iraq
Attacked with rockets and drones tonight the Ain al-Assad basein western Iraq, where American soldiers and members of the international coalition are stationed, as reported by the Reuters news agency citing two security officials.
Several explosions occurred inside the facilities, according to the same source, with no reports of casualties so far.
Ain al-Assad Air Base is located in the western province of Anbar.
In recent days, pro-Iranian armed groups have threatened to launch attacks against US interests in Iraq because of its support Washington in the attacks unleashed by the Israel in the Gaza Stripfrom which thousands of civilians have been killed.
In previous years, bases hosting international coalition troops were often targeted by rocket and drone attacks. However, by the summer of 2022, these attacks had subsided. Such attacks were usually not followed by a claim of responsibility. The US attributed the responsibility to organizations close to the Tehran.
About 2,500 Americans and another 1,000 military personnel from member countries of the international coalition are currently stationed at three bases of the Iraqi armed forces.
