Five people have died as Storm Babette has caused devastating flooding in several parts of Britain, while the forecast for heavy rain over the next few days is raising fears of further flooding.

Police Scotland announced today that a man has been found dead in a car in the Aberdeen area.

This is the third victim of the bad weather in Scotland, while two other people have died in England.

Thousands of people saw their homes flooded and several hundred remain homeless. During her visit to Retford, one of the affected areas, Environment Minister Therese Coffey told Sky News that some homeless people could be waiting for months before being able to return to their homes.

In the wake of Storm Babette, authorities today issued fresh flood warnings for around 100 areas, particularly in England’s Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire counties, where some rivers have risen to their highest levels since 2007. The risk of further flooding remains until Wednesday, experts warn.
