85-year-old Yosef Lifsitz and 79-year-old Nurit Cooper were kidnapped by Hamas during its attack on the Nir Oz kibbutz on October 7.
Lifsitz, 85, is an activist who has previously helped bring patients from Gaza to Israel for treatment, her grandson said.
As Daniel Lifsitz told Reuters, Oded’s grandmother and grandfather, who remains a Hamas hostage like Cooper’s husband, have done enough for the people of Gaza.
“They are human rights and peace activists their whole lives. For over a decade they have been transporting Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, not from the West Bank but from the Gaza Strip every week from the Erez crossing to Israeli hospitals to receive treatments for diseases such as cancer etc.” added the 85-year-old’s grandson.
“I can’t tell you how relieved I am,” said the 85-year-old’s daughter, who emphasized that her efforts are now focused on her father’s release.
Her daughter, Sharon Lifsich, speaking to CNN, said that her mother’s release after mediation by Qatar and Egypt was “a great sign that more things can happen.”
“My mom’s story is an amazing story. This is a small ray of light in a big story that is still unfolding,” he added. “I can’t wait to hug my mom and I can’t wait to see the other members of my community.” he added.
