110,682 amount to new cases of coronavirus recorded in Turkey in the last 24 hours, a number that is a record since the beginning of the pandemic, according to data from the Ministry of Health.
At the end of December the new infections were around 20,000 per day, but since then they have increased, mainly due to the spread of the Omicron variant.
Another 217 patients have died in the last 24 hours and the total number of victims exceeds 87,000, according to official figures.
At the same time, the scientific council to address it pandemic announced that the molnupiravir antiviral pill will be administered from next week to patients over 65 years or to those suffering from chronic diseases. According to the council, it seems that almost all new infections are due to Ομικρον. The fullness in Intensive Care Units amounts to 68.7% across the country and experts estimate that this new wave of pandemic will not significantly burden hospitals.
Many countries rushed to procure it drug molnupiravir of Merck after its first, promising initial results. However, the data released by the company at the end of November indicated that it is not significantly less effective than previously thought.
