Hadas Calderon, whose two children and their father were taken hostage on October 7, is fighting for the return and rescue of her family, her daughter Sahar, 16, and her son Erez, 12
Dramatic is the appeal of a mother for the release of her children who are among the hostages of Hamas.
Hadas Calderon, whose the two children and their father were taken hostage on October 7is fighting to return and save her family, her daughter Sahar, 16, and her son Erez, 12.
Calderon’s family was torn apart on Saturday, October 7, when Hamas terrorists stormed Kibbutz Nir Oz.
“It was 6:30 on a Saturday morning. We started hearing a massive bombardment,” says Hadas, adding that “we went to the safe room, as we’ve done for the last twenty years, we’re used to it. But something was wrong, something was different that time.”
“Then we started getting messages about terrorists, many of them who came to the kibbutz.” Hadash says she began exchanging messages with the father of her children, who lived in a different house in the same kibbutz.
At some point he received the message “he’s here. The terrorists are in my house.” The last message she received from him said they jumped out of a window and were hiding in a bush.
It was at the same time that the terrorists also broke into Khanda’s house. As she describes it, she could hear them ransacking her home and shooting people outside as she remained in the safe room that was built to withstand missile and chemical attacks, but not to protect against a ground invasion.
Hadas said the last message she received from her son Erez told her “Mom, hush! Do not move! I love you!” Her daughter’s last message was simply: “Mom! Mom! Mom!”
She herself, describing the scene she faced when she finally left her house, says that “it was a massacre, a pogrom, a Holocaust. There was nothing left, most of the houses burned down. I could not believe what I was seeing! A minute ago it was a paradise – a green, quiet place, peaceful people. There are no words to explain it.”
Now, Handas is holding up two white placards, each with a photo of Sahar and Erez. At the top, in black capital letters, are written the words: “Bring them home now!”
Appealing to other countries as well, the children’s mother says that “it is up to other governments such as Egypt, Qatar and France to push for the return of the hostages and ensure that their release remains a priority”.
