Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to join conservative TV channel GB News next yearwhere he will have a “key role” in the coverage of the British and American elections.

Johnson, 59, was forced to step down in the summer of 2022 after a series of scandals during his premiership. The prime minister (2019-22) who took Britain out of the European Union will present shows on the channel which will “unfold the power of the UK to the world”, GB News reported.

“GB News is a revolutionary channel, with a loyal and growing audience,” Johnson said, saying he was excited to share his “honest views on world events”.

The channel’s editorial director, Michael Booker, said he was “proud” that Johnson, “the most influential Prime Minister of our generation” and an “incredibly talented journalist” would be joining the GB News family.

After resigning as an MP in June after a parliamentary inquiry concluded he lied to the House of Commons when explaining Downing Street parties during the pandemic, Johnson took up writing for the Conservative newspaper Daily Mail while at the same time continuing his lucrative speaking engagements around the world.

Before entering politics, initially as Mayor of London, Johnson began his journalism career as an intern at the Times, but was quickly fired on suspicion of fabricating a statement. In 1989 he became a correspondent for the Daily Telegraph in Brussels and then a columnist in London for the same newspaper and The Spectator magazine.

GB News was founded in June 2021 and has been accused several times by Ofcom, the UK media regulator, of failing to fulfill its duty of impartiality.
