An employee of the Netherlands’ counter-terrorism agency and a former colleague who recently joined the police have been arrested on charges of leaking state secrets, prosecutors said.

The 64-year-old NCTV worker (the office of the National Coordinator for Security and Counter-Terrorism) was arrested last Thursday, according to the announcement of the National Prosecution Authority. The 35-year-old woman who also worked at NCTV but recently joined the national police was also arrested on the same day.

The prosecution did not specify what kind of secrets were leaked or who their recipient was. The two suspects have not yet been charged.

Justice Minister Dylan Gesilgoz said she would call for the leaks to be investigated, along with the criminal investigation.

“NCTV and the police have taken additional security measures in relation to this matter,” she said in a letter to parliament, clarifying that as investigations are ongoing no further information will be released at this time.

The 64-year-old man from Rotterdam and the 35-year-old woman from Guda have not been named. There is currently no announcement from a lawyer representing them. A judge ordered on October 31 that they remain in custody for 14 days, a spokesman for the prosecution said.

NCTV was established to prevent terrorist attacks and prevent cyber security threats and interference by foreign actors.
