The Tunisian tennis player burst into tears Ons Zambertwhich was a finalist in Wimbledon in 2022 and 2023, right after her win over Marketa Vodrusova at the WTA Finals.
Speaking tearfully to a journalist about what is happening in Gaza, she announced that it will financially support the Palestinians.
“I’m very happy with the win, but I haven’t been happy lately, to be honest with you. The situation in the world does not make me happy,” said the Tunisian champion, No. 7 in the world ranking of women’s tennis.
“It is very difficult to see children, babies dying every day. It’s heartbreaking… So I’ve decided to donate part of my prize money to help the Palestinians,” Ons Zamber said through tears.
“I can’t just be happy with the win, with what is happening. Sorry guys, it’s supposed to be (only) about tennis, but it’s very disappointing to see videos (from Gaza) every day. Sorry, not a political message. It’s just humanity. I want peace in this world and nothing else.”
