Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) announced today that it has arrested five suspects in connection with a failed “terrorist attack” targeting government institutionsArmenia’s state news agency Armenpress reported.

Armenpress, citing a statement from the NSS, said the five suspects, along with their unidentified accomplices, were planning a bombing attack, killings and occupation of government buildings.

According to Armenpress, the police confiscated weapons and ammunition from the homes of the arrested. However, the Armenian news agency did not mention the motives of the alleged plot.

The Armenian government of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has been facing calls from critics to step down since neighboring Azerbaijan seized Armenian separatist Nagorno-Karabakh in September.a separatist region supported by Armenia.

Azerbaijan’s seizure of Karabakh caused a mass exodus of nearly all of the region’s 120,000 Armenians and demonstrations in Yerevan demanding Pashinyan’s resignation.
