Two elderly civilians were killed while the shelling damaged critical infrastructure
Two people were killed today in the Kherson region of southern Ukraine by Russian shelling that damaged critical infrastructure and caused power outages, local officials said.
Russian troops control territory on the east bank of the large Dnieper river that flows through the region.
The city of Kherson and Ukrainian-controlled areas on the west bank regularly come under Russian bombardment, facing numerous air strikes throughout the day.
“The night of hell in Stanislav. There were more than 40 hits in the village,” said regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin on the Telegram messaging app, referring to nighttime attacks by Russian invasion forces.
An elderly woman was killed and private homes, a school and local medical buildings were damaged, Prokudin added.
In separate Russian shelling in the morning, a 60-year-old man was killed in the village of Vesele, he said.
Roman Mrotsko, head of the military administration of the city of Kherson, did not elaborate on the nature of the critical infrastructure affected by Russia, but added on Telegram: “There are temporary power outages for some consumers.”
