US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is to pay a two-day visit to Turkey which begins Sunday as part of his regional tour and diplomatic contacts focused on the Hamas-Israel conflict.
The US Secretary of State is meeting today with his Arab counterparts in the Jordanian capital Amman, one day after his visit to Israel.
The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Jordan, as well as Palestinian representatives they will emphasize the “Arab position calling for an immediate ceasefire, delivery of humanitarian aid and ways to end the dangerous escalation that threatens security in the region,” the ministry said in a statement yesterday.
In a meeting with Blinken in Amman earlier today, Lebanon’s caretaker prime minister, Najib Mikati, stressed the need to work towards a ceasefire in Gaza and an end to what he described as Israeli aggression in southern Lebanon, according to announcement from Mikati’s office.
In a development that widens the rift between the two countries, Turkey has recalled its ambassador to Israel over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and Israeli shelling of the area, reports skynews.com.
In particular, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey issued a statement in which it states that the ambassador in Tel Aviv, Sakir Ozkan, has been recalled to Ankara “for consultations”.
Israel’s envoys to Turkey left the country last month for security reasons.
On Saturday morning, returning from Astana, ErdoÄŸan stated while talking to journalists that Turkey is no longer talking to Netanyahu: “Let me tell you this, Netanyahu is no longer someone we can talk to. We deleted him and threw him away.”
