The hostage situation that has been going on since last night on the runway of Hamburg airport has ended.

According to the police of the German city, the suspect, a 35-year-old Turkish man who had entered the airport runway with his car and was holding his four-year-old daughter hostage, was arrested without resistance.

According to the same source, father and daughter got out of the car and the child appears to be unharmed.

According to Bild newspaper, the man has asked to be allowed to travel to Turkey with his four-year-old daughter.

The 35-year-old gunman drove his car through the bar at the airport gate and entered the runway, firing two shots into the air and hurling two flaming bottles that looked like Molotov cocktails, a police spokesman said.

The man parked it next to a Turkish Airlines plane.

Police said they believed the incident was related to a “child custody dispute” and said negotiations were being conducted in Turkish.

Earlier, the car driver’s wife had informed the police about the child’s abduction, a police spokesman said.
