According to the Israeli military, Hamas is using hospitals, including Gaza’s main Al-Sifah hospital, the Qatari-funded Sheikh Hamad Hospital as well as a hospital built by organizations from Indonesia, as cover for its underground operations. .
“We built this hospital to help others”
The administrator of the Indonesian Hospital in the Gaza Strip today rejected the Israeli military’s accusation that its facilities are being used by Hamas to launch attacks.
“We built this hospital to help others, according to the needs of the people in Gaza,” said Sarbini Abdul Murad, president of MER-C, the volunteer organization responsible for running the Indonesian Hospital.
“The accusation of Israel is a condition for them to be able to attack the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza,” he said at a press conference in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta.
An Israeli military spokesman said yesterday that satellite imagery showed rocket launchers positioned on the road opposite the Indonesian hospital.
Another official at MER-C said there is no tunnel under the hospital and that its fuel tank and generators are in separate, nearby buildings for security reasons.
Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim country, has called for an immediate ceasefire and sent humanitarian aid to Gaza.
At least 10,022 Palestinians, including 4,104 children, have been killed by Israeli fire since October 7 in the Gaza Strip, the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry announced today.
