US President Joe Biden on Monday proposed to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a “three-day ceasefire” in order for Hamas to agree to release more hostages, the Axios news website reported today, citing unnamed US and Israeli officials.

According to the report, a US official told Axios of consultations between the US, Israel and Qatar regarding the proposed plan, which would see “Hamas release 10-15 hostages” and during the “three-day ceasefire” the Palestinian Islamist organization would “identify all hostages” and release a “list of names”.

US and Israeli officials said that “Netanyahu told Biden that he does not trust Hamas” and that he does not believe (Hamas) is willing to accept a deal for the hostages.

The Israeli prime minister’s office declined to comment on the report, while a White House spokesman noted that it does not comment on President Biden’s private conversations.
