A US unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was shot down by the Houthis in Yemen today, Iran-backed rebels announced earlier today and a top US military official later confirmed, according to the Times of Israel.

Our air defense shot down an American MQ-9 Reaper that was carrying out a hostile mission in Yemeni airspace“, spokesman Yahya Sharia told Al-Masirah TV.

A senior US military official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the claim and added that it was being investigated whether the UAV was flying over Yemen or in international airspace.

The Houthi spokesman explained that “hostile actions” such as the sending of the American UAV “will not prevent us from continuing our military operations against Israeli targets.”

Since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas on October 7, the Houthis have launched attacks against Israel with missiles and drones.
