A social media post purporting to show the London mayor saying pro-Palestinian rallies should be prioritized over tomorrow’s Armistice Day events is fake and police have launched an investigation.

The post could fuel further tensions in London, a day before a major pro-Palestinian demonstration to coincide with the anniversary of the end of World War I.

Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has described this demonstration as “provocative”. There are also fears of violent clashes as far-right groups have hinted that they will take over the protection of the Cenotaph, the war memorial.

A spokesman for Mayor Sadiq Khan, who is a member of the Labor Party, said London police and the counter-terrorism agency had been made aware and were investigating the fake video being circulated online and used by far-right groups.

Police did not respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Tomorrow’s demonstration has sparked political controversy in Britain, particularly after Home Secretary Suella Braverman attacked the police in an opinion piece for their handling of it and their decision not to ban it.
