IBM says it’s pulling ads from Elon Musk’s X – Comcast says it’s looking into the matter
The movement of the richest man in the world and owner of X Corp caused an uproar Elon Musk to agree with a post on the platform that claimed that Jews are possessed by a “dialectical hatred of whites.”
The comment came from a post by user X that claimed Jews “promote the exact kind of anti-white hate speech they claim they want people to stop using against them.” Musk adopted the comment, responding: “You spoke the real truth”
At the same time, IBM said it was pulling its ads from Elon Musk’s X after a report by Media Matters for America, a liberal watchdog group, said its listings had appeared close to pro-Nazi content.
On Thursday, Media Matters released the report, saying it found ads from major brands including IBM, Apple, Oracle, Comcast’s Xfinity and Bravo appearing alongside content “promoting Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party”.
“IBM has zero tolerance to hate speech and discrimination and we immediately pulled all ads on X while we investigate this completely unacceptable situation,” a company spokesperson said.
Comcast responded that it was looking into the matter. Apple and Oracle did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the FT.
After taking over Twitter for $44 billion last year, Musk fired many of his employees who worked on security on the platform. Many brands, wary of having their ads placed next to toxic content, pulled out of the platform. Advertising revenue is down by about 50%, Musk said in July.
