In a total prison sentence of 6 years a 27-year-old woman was convicted by the Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki, for attacking with a knife and injuring a 30-year-old woman for reasons of sexual jealousy.

The judges found her guilty of grievous bodily harm – by converting the charge from attempted murder – as well as illegal carrying of weapons and use of weapons, while they recognized the mitigating factor of her previous legal life and decided to release her until the Court of Appeal, on the condition that she do not approach the victim.

The incident happened last August, in Pylaia, Thessaloniki, where the 27-year-old defendant, originally from Albania, followed her 30-year-old compatriot and stabbed her three times – twice in the abdomen and once in the left shoulder.

The patient was taken to a hospital where she was intubated and underwent surgery, while the perpetrator was handed over to the Police.

According to the indictment, the cause of the bloody episode was allegedly the extramarital affair that – as the defendant claimed – her husband and father of her two minor children had with the 30-year-old. “I just wanted to bully her. I had no intention of harming her. I was mad when she said she wants to take my children and my husband. He said I was being extradited. I took the knife only to show it to her, not to hit her,” the 27-year-old said in her apology, apologizing to the victim.

In her testimony before the judges, the latter denied spreading the above against the accused, for whom she said she has forgiven her, considering that her purpose “was not to kill me but to injure me”.
