A car bomb had exploded at an Iraqi police recruiting center at Kisak, east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to Reuters.
According to the same witness, the police are in the area of the explosion, taking care of the injured. The cause of the explosion and whether it caused casualties were not immediately known.
The U.S. embassy in the Congolese capital, Kinshasa, said on Tuesday it believed “terrorist attacks” were planned in the city of Beni “in the near future”, warning US citizens not to travel to the city.
There have been several attacks in the city in recent times, with authorities attributing them to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).
It is an armed group that has sworn allegiance to the Islamic State.
A suicide bomber struck a restaurant in the same city on Christmas Day 2021, killing at least five people and wounding himself, officials said.
The city of Beni was also hit by two explosions in June last year in a Catholic church and a busy passage. The bomber was killed in the second attack.
