The latest figures on child abuse in France they are more than shocking. Every three minutes in France, a child is sexually assaulted, and every year the scourge of incest affects 160,000 children. Also, every five days, a child dies in their family environment…

The data has been provided since 2015 by the Independent Committee on Incest and Sexual Violence against Children, known as “Ciivise”, with the mission of collecting testimonies and proposing solutions.

Out of 27,000 testimonies he collected in the two years, 21-22, only 8% of the children had a positive response from the social environment, i.e. they listened to them, believed them and took care of them. “We are creating a society where children grow up with trauma.” and if they do not have the necessary support they are likely to develop long-term problems such as “drug addiction, alcoholism, eating disorders, delinquency or unexplained pathologies”, complains Ciivise.

Therefore, a national campaign to tackle the problem is now required, underlines the responsible for the protection of children, Secretary, Charlotte Kobel. Domestic sexual violence is the first target of the campaign he announced. At the same time, it suggests strengthening education courses on sexuality and emotional life, in schools, colleges and high schools, with at least three annual sessions.

Each session is tailored to the age group of the children. Immediately and by the end of 2023, “listening rooms” will be organized in all pediatric departments of hospitals, as well as a general “information platform” for communication and vigilance.
