Javier Millay compared the return of the Falklands to Argentina to the return of Hong Kong to China – What he said about the possibility of war
The eccentric newly elected president of Argentina Javier Millay he believes the Falkland Islands belong to his nation and is committed to “getting them back.”
Javier Millay, a “former tantric sex coach” who used a medium to contact his dead dog for political advice during his election campaign, insisted that the return of Falkland Islands from Britain is ‘non-negotiable’adding that the area, known as Malvinas in Argentina (Islas Malvinas), is Argentine territory.
Millay, known as “el Loco,” the madman, made it clear that he would “makes every effort” to take back the Falkland Islands – but clarified that he would not go to war either.
He insisted it was “non-negotiable” for Britain to hand over the Falklands to Argentina, comparing this particular case to the return of Hong Kong to China by the United Kingdom.
The Falklands were the subject of a brief but brutal war after Argentina invaded the islands in 1982. London drove out the invaders after sending a naval armada, but the issue was never considered settled in Buenos Aires.
Argentina believes the Falklands were illegally taken from it in 1833, so it invaded the British colony in 1982. The UK sent troops and Argentina lost the two-month war over the archipelago in a conflict that killed 649 Argentines and 255 British soldiers.
Argentina still claims the islands, while Britain says the Falklands are a self-governing entity under its protection. A referendum in 2013 resulted in 99.8% of residents in favor of remaining in Britain.
Millay insisted during the election campaign in Argentina that questions about the future of the Falkland Islands “they cannot be ignored”. “What do I suggest? Her dominance
Argentina in the Malvinas Islands is non-negotiable. The Malvinas are Argentinian. Now we have to figure out how to get them back. It is clear that the option of war is not a solution,” he said.
“What we are proposing is to move towards a solution like the one England had with China over the Hong Kong issue and that in this context the position of the people living on the islands cannot be ignored. You can’t deny that these people are there. You cannot ignore these human beings. You have to negotiate with Britain and take into account the views of the people who live on the islands,” he added.
“We are looking for a solution to return the Malvinas Islands to Argentina through diplomacy, a solution that is viable, that is feasible,” he concluded.
Miley has previously praised the former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher as one of the “great leaders in the history of mankind”, causing strong reactions in Argentina.
