The Thai government has reported that 20 of its nationals remain prisoners of Hamas
Iran has facilitated the release of 10 Thai hostages held in the Gaza Strip by giving a list of names to Hamas, at the request of Thailand’s foreign ministry and parliament speaker, Iran’s embassy in Thailand said today.
“This request was accepted by Hamas and 10 Thai hostages were released after the ceasefire,” the Iranian embassy said in a social media post.
A Thai foreign ministry spokesman told Reuters that: “We have given lists of names from the beginning to everyone,” including Qatar, Egypt, Israel and Iran. “Different factors would have different influence on Hamas,” the spokesman added.
A group of Thai Muslim politicians had traveled to Tehran in October and met with senior Hamas officials.
Thai Foreign Minister Parnp Parnpri Bahida-Nukara also held talks with senior officials in Cairo and Doha about the release of the Thai hostages.
In the first phase of the implementation of the Israel-Hamas agreement, yesterday Friday, 24 hostages – 13 Israelis, 10 Thais and one Filipino – were released today by the Islamist organization of the Gaza Strip, while Israel released 39 women and children held in its prisons.
The Thai government has reported that 20 of its nationals remain prisoners of Hamas.
Nearly 30,000 Thais were working in Israel, mostly in the agricultural sector, at the time of the Oct. 7 attacks, according to Bangkok authorities.
