Republican former US President Donald Trump is unlikely to be among the foreign guests at the inauguration of Argentina’s president-elect, far-liberal Javier Millay, on December 10, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters.
The press office of the controversial Argentine politician announced on November 23 that the conservative tycoon would go to Buenos Aires to see Mr Millay, with whom he has ideological affinities. without however clarifying whether he will attend his swearing-in.
However, a source close to the campaign of the stormy Republican, who is currently vying for the GOP nomination to be his candidate in the US presidential election in November 2024, noted that his heavy schedule is not expected to allow him to attend.
“Nothing is planned at this time,” he said, adding that “with (party) votes in Iowa, New Hampshire and elsewhere looming on the horizon, it would be difficult in the short term” for Mr. Trump to travel to Argentina.
The first intra-party Republican vote, the one in the state of Iowa, will be held on January 15· the one in New Hampshire will follow on January 23rd.
Moreover, the tycoon is faced with various trials in civil and criminal courts.
Far-right Javier Millay, who won the presidential election by 12 points this month, has been repeatedly compared to Mr. Trump, as he also has a very aggressive speech and similar political views. The former US president warmly congratulated him on his victory, saying he was sure he would “give Argentina back its greatness”, a trademark phrase of his own campaign.
