“It’s not something that’s common. We look for a precedent and find none. The meeting with the Greek Prime Minister was canceled by the British Prime Minister and we assume the obvious, that he was disturbed by the statements with the fixed positions of the country on the return of the Parthenon sculptures”, he said characteristically the government representative Pavlos Marinakis speaking on the show “Today” on SKAI.

He also stated that the cancellation of the meeting became known during a meeting between the Greek Prime Minister K. Mitsotakis and the leader of the official British opposition to whom he expressed the permanent positions of our country for the return of the Parthenon sculptures.

“It is better to express a disagreement, especially when a prime minister comes from another country with a heavy agenda such as the Middle East”, he said and added that this attitude is answered by the statement of Mr. Mitsotakis who expressed his annoyance and emphasized that whoever he believes in his positions and is not afraid to express them.

The government representative noted that the attitude of the British government does not show respect not only to the prime minister but to the whole country.

“We do not want to escalate the issue with a country with which we have good relations. For the sculptures, the negotiation is between the Greek state and the British museum and is an ongoing process and in no way do we want it to be considered a generalized crisis” and added that the event is recorded “as an individual behavior of the British Prime Minister, negative”.

When asked if there is something more to this attitude and it concerns other issues, “I think the cause is this issue” and he concluded that “the country will continue to express its fixed positions”.
