Elizabeth II’s 70-year reign and the future of the crown; listen to podcast

by

This Sunday (6), the accession of Queen Elizabeth II to the British throne completes 70 years, reaching the Platinum Jubilee with a party that will even have a pudding competition, but which is also marked by internal royal scandals.

The UK’s longest-serving monarch, Elizabeth was on the throne during the downfall of colonialism and, with it, the British Empire. The queen also had to manage economic crises and scandals within her own family.

Elizabeth became Queen at age 25 on February 6, 1952, following the death of her father, George Sixth. At a very different age, her son, Prince Charles, is first in line to the throne – who in 2022 will be 74 years old.

This Monday’s episode of Breakfast (7) discusses with journalist (and Queen enthusiast) Barbara Gancia the reign of Elizabeth II, the scandals of the royal family and the future of the crown.
