Negotiators, who are seeking to extend the six-day truce in the Gaza Strip, believe the ceasefire can be extended for two more daystwo Egyptian security sources said today.

Negotiations are “moving forward” towards the release of civilian men held hostage in GazaQatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari told CNN on Wednesday.

“Our negotiations on women and children are taking center stage in the discussionsbut obviously we’re moving toward the release of civilian men,” Al-Ansari, also an adviser to Qatar’s prime minister, told CNN’s Caitlan Collins.

There are also long-running discussions about the release of serving Israeli soldiers who are being heldalongside the prospect of brokering a “longer truce” that could “lead to a ceasefire”according to Al-Ansari.

Qatar’s counsel did not confirm whether any American hostages were on the list to be released Wednesdayresponding: “I cannot comment at this time on the safety of the hostages and the success of the exchange today.”
