The Weeknd contributes to efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

As a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), the multi-platinum artist is making available $2.5 million from the XO Humanitarian Fund to meet WFP-warned food needs in Gaza.

The donation, equivalent to four million emergency meals, will fund the provision of 820 metric tons of food parcels, which can meet the feeding needs of more than 173,000 Palestinians for two weeks, according to the UN World Food Programme.

Since 7 October, WFP has provided food assistance to more than 764,000 Palestinians in cooperation with regional partners and other UN agencies. Thanks to WFP’s efforts, trucks have transported fresh bread, date bars, canned goods, flour, pasta, tomato sauces and oil—to hard-to-reach areas that were previously unreachable.

Appointed a Goodwill Ambassador in October 2021, Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye has actively supported WFP’s global mission to address hunger and food insecurity through personal donations of $1.8 million and through the XO Humanitarian Fund which he founded in collaboration with the UN World Food Programme.

The Fund, which has raised $5 million to date, has allocated $2.5 million to support emergency food aid for women and children in Ethiopia and will now provide $2.5 million to Gaza.
